we’ve used every effect imaginable at one point or another. it’s something that you just have to figure out through trial and error over the years.-Nate

i have a few things up at http://www.thedreamvacuum.tumblr.com
I got a chapbook published back when the band was starting but then i’ve been so deep in the music game i’ve been slacking off on releasing poetry. I’m working on a few more chapbooks now tho. will hopefully have them out sooner than later.

oh man i dunno that’s a hard one. changes every day. the things that i go back to year after year are shit like
Leonard Cohen: songs of love and hate
Velvet Underground: s/t
Jesus and Mary Chain: darklands
Townes Van Zandt: s/t
Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers: everything, especially live recordings
that’s like my “desert island” shit.
but there’s 10,00000000 other bands new and old too

i’m too close to them to compare. i like them each for what they are. I’m maybe more attached to Pleasure just because i wrote like hundreds of songs and went thru alot of bands before I finally got to put out an LP. it took literally like 10 years of trying and failing. me and jesse were in a band back in the day that recorded 12 songs in one day for an album. we payed the engineer and then we never saw him or the tapes again. that type of shit kept happening over and over again until through straight up WILLL POWER we put together PLEASURE piece by piece. when i held that shit in my hands i could have died right then and been fine with it. -nate

John Fante, Baudelaire, Bukowski, Melville, Franz Wright, Celine, Du Fu, Basho, Hemingway, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Poe, Wallace Stevens, Genet.
cub-b said: how is writing lyrics and poetry different? do you distinguish between the two?
the poetry i write is more free form, straight from the dome sorta stuff. lyrics are way more of a pain in the ass because you have to fit them into a structure. and rhyming sometimes is so annoying. i like them each for what they are and i tend to switch it up alot. if i’m writing alot of songs then i’ll take a break to get free and write poems. if i’m writing alot of poems then i’ll break that up by singing/writing songs.-Nate
